How to Make Perfect Bows Using a Fork
Alright, this isn’t a groundbreaking tutorial, but sometimes you just gotta do crafts for the sake of cuteness. And boy, are these little fork bows cute! They’re pretty easy to make and I love how crisp and clean the bows turn out.
Materials
- Ribbon (no more than 1/2″ wide)
- Fork
- Scissors
How to Make Fork Bows
For the pictures in this tutorial, I’ll explain both the single-loop and double-loop fork bows. (By single- and double-loops I’m referring to the amount of loops on just one side. A single-loop is what you normally think of when you picture a bow.)
Cut about 1 1/2′ of ribbon.
Leaving about 4″ of ribbon as a “tail”, weave the remaining ribbon between the tines of the fork.
Fold the ribbon over the end tine and weave the opposite way.
Repeat the process, adding more rows depending on the number of loops you want in your final bow. To figure out the number of rows you want, take your desired number of loops (on one side), double it, and add 1. For example, if you want a two-looped fork bow, you’ll need 5 rows (2×2 +1).

Next, scoot the ribbon up to the top of the fork to create a space at the bottom.
Cut a 4″ piece of ribbon. Feed the ribbon through the middle tines of the fork below your weaving.
Bring both ends of the ribbon up to meet at the top of the weaving. Tie a double knot tightly around the weaving. The ribbon will bunch up in the middle.
Cut the ends of the ribbon you tied as close to the knot as you can.
Slide the bow off the fork. Adjust or “fluff” the loops according to your liking.
Cut the ends of the ribbon to the length you’d like.
After this, the possibilities are endless. Use the fork bows to dress up a picture frame, bobby pins, cards, or anything else that needs a little extra decoration.
Use the bows to address an envelope……
….or make some darling bobby pins.

My sister really loves playing around with folk ribbons, but I thought it was a different procedure than this. I will confirm with her later, and also try making out mine. Thanks a lot for sharing.

It’s very possible that there’s two ways to make fork bows. Let me know what you find out. It would be interesting to find another way to create them!
